Anti-hunting movement Anti-hunting movement

Anti-hunting movement in Ukraine - who are they?

“The anti-hunting movement is not really about the welfare of animals, it is about a hatred of people”, - Tim Boner, Chief Executive of Countryside Alliance (UK).

The anti-hunting movement is built on the concept of biocentrism and is gaining more and more supporters, because a generation accustomed to get food in supermarkets and spend more time on the Internet than in the forest, doesn’t understand the necessity of hunting and is completely unfamiliar with the principles of hunting and natural processes.

And what is behind the “animal rights activists” and anti-hunters, and what motivates them? According to the classification of the famous social ecologist A.V. Vinober, studying the issues of nature management and nature protection, the so-called animal protectionists are divided into the following types:

  1. Ideologists - professionally engaged in anti-hunting activities, so make money from this.

In Ukraine the example of this type is “Kyiv ecological and cultural center” (KECC), which invoke: stop hunting – become the person. As it follows from the information posted on the official website of the MacArthur Foundation, for 8 years KECC received from foundation 5 grants totaling $ 500,000. The Foundation also financed the publication of the Humanitarian Environmental Journal, providing $ 105,000 for this purpose. In 2007, the KECC won a grant from the International Renaissance Foundation in the amount of $ 8,133 to conduct an educational seminar for public organizations in Kiev with the aim of spreading their experience. In that year representatives of public organizations from Ukraine, Russia, Belarus and Moldova adopted the Manifesto and the Anti-Hunting Movement Program.

Another Ukrainian public organization, which makes a lot of efforts to close the hunt, is Eco-Law Kiev, together with the KECC they have developed and lobbied for a lot of legal acts and won more than one court. In order to be able to provide legal advice, work with the government to develop and implement environmental legislation, etc. from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation (USA) Eco-Law Kiev in 1998 received a grant of $39,983, in 2006 $31,000 from the Tides Foundation (USA).

Financial donation is a worldwide practice, but in the case of radical animal advocates, this aid is allegedly used for the benefit of animals, but in fact - to the detriment of hunting. Therefore, you will not see any campaign or project for the conservations of wild animals developed by such organizations.

  1. Provocateurs - they do not care about the topic, they join all the actions of animal rights activists in order to express their opinion and make a fuss.
  2. In love with animals - they feel amorousness for different kinds of animals, but often this feeling is brought up by virtual and contactless means (for example, video clips, trips to the zoo). The most emotional often have inadequate realities of the idea of the physiology and ethology of animals.
  3. Pitying - the most impressionable group.

Methods of work of anti-hunters. Quite often anti-hunters with the aim to attract attention invite celebrities to take part in their campaign. But the main method of anti-hunters is the filling of the information space. They publish numerous books on environmental subjects, in which in one way or another, says about hunting with negative coloring. Articles of "green" filled also the Internet space. Working with the media consists of numerous press conferences, round tables, comments and interviews, constant mailings. That the information spread by them caused compassion, among the "pitying" animal protectionists, it must be stunning. In this regard, anti-hunters use such definitions in relation to hunting as species terror, genocide, equate hunters to murderers.

Anti-hunters call their potential accomplices not only to the various dissemination of anti-hunting information, but also to commit acts of vandalism. For example, paint the show-windows of hunting stores and hunters' machines, burn down hunting towers. And if the ethical code of the hunter presupposes strict observance of laws, then the ethical code of the anti-hunter directly prescribes to violate the law.

Cooperation with anti-hunting organizations from other countries is also actively used. International portals publish appeals to colleagues asking them to conduct actions at Ukrainian embassies in different countries, writing letters to the president of Ukraine and Ukrainian government.

The fight against the anti-hunt movement is a struggle for the minds of those who are not on the side of hunters or on the side of anti-hunters. And this is a large part of the society, which has influence, including, on the authorities making decisions. Improve the image of hunters who really invest in the conservation and reproduction of wild animals; an explanation of the necessity and usefulness of the existence of the hunting is what should unite all the public that is related to the hunting. This is something that hunters should to spare no effort - in fact only in this case it is possible to talk about the possibility of the existence and development of the hunting industry in Ukraine. Only together we can save for the descendants our traditions, hunting and wild animals!
